It's mid November and soon you will probably be preparing to create that detailed list of goals you want to accomplish in the coming year? Before your goals lose their novelty, and you abandon them by the end of the first month of the new year, stop and think about the roles you fulfill daily (ex. wife, mother, Christian, career woman, business owner, student, friend, etc.); then begin to think of goals you want to accomplish in each of these roles. Keep your goals simple by only listing one or two things that you want to accomplish in each of the roles. Remember, goals should be SMART. According to the SMART acronym, your goals should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound (attached to a specific date or time frame).

Feeling discouraged because you've lost that zest for life that you once had? Rekindle that joy and excitement by creating a laundry list of all the off-the-wall things you want to do before you die (ex. run a marathon, take a trip to Europe, write a book, trace your roots, learn a foreign language, ...) then take steps to accomplish at least one off-the-wall thing a year.

T. S. Eliot said: "If you haven't the strength to impose your own terms upon life, you must accept the terms it offers you."

Norman Vincent Peale said: "If you have zest and enthusiasm you attract zest and enthusiasm. Life does give back in kind."

When you find yourself engaged in a cycle of negative thoughts, challenge your thoughts:

1. Determine where your negative thoughts are coming from (a friend, a feeling, a lie, lack of understanding, etc.)?

2. Take control over your negative thoughts by:


  • Choosing not to dwell on the negative thought, or replacing that negative thought with a pleasant thought.

  • Peacefully confronting the person generating some of the negative thoughts you may have.

  • Seeking resolution in God's Word regarding a negative thought.


Philippians 4:8 say: "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things."

I believe that within every godly woman is a Proverbs 31 woman, we might not be all aspects of this wonderful woman, but it does not make us any less wonderful. If you are having problems finding the Proverbs 31 woman within you, and in walking in the grace, love, and harmony that she walked in, check yourself:

Do you understand your responsibility as a steward of God?

Do you apply Godly principles to the various aspects of your life?

Do you realize that your relationship with God affects every area of your life?
